In looking at this acronym it may not become immediately clear what’s being referred too. However if I said, "Poor Mans Copyright" most songwriters and musicians immediately chime in and explain this process of protecting ones original material for just the cost of a postage stamp. If you are one of the three people in the world unfamiliar with this process ;o ) let me explain.
Poor Man's Copyright is a method utilizing the postal service or other trusted shipping service to date your intellectual property by simply mailing or sending it to yourself to establish when the work was completed and in your possession. The thought is in reviewing the postmark date on the sealed envelope that this would convincingly establish you as owner of the material inside on and after that date. The problem with this method is that there are so many ways to invalidate the date.
So you ask, how can you fake a postmark date? Well it's not faking the date as much as the date on the envelope doesn't serve as real proof of when the items were placed in the envelope. Let's say I mailed an empty envelope to myself or better yet a couple of them. You see I would want a couple top 10 Hits! Anyway, I mail some empty unsealed envelopes to myself and then years later put a recording of one of those hits I heard from the radio inside. Using this method I could easily claim ownership to possibly the next 10 top ten hits only looking a few years out. In doing a quick "GOOGLE" search I found no court cases where this method of copywriting was used successfully in even a single court case.
Now let me stop here and say, we are not lawyers and in no way trying to give out legal advice on the subject.
However as musicians, I know when I create an original work and if I'm lucky enough to have it recognized as a work worthy of making money I would sure hate to loose out because I only had some unopened mail to prove the song everyone is hearing on the radio and television is mine.
So before you run out and purchase that book of stamps and box of envelopes you may want to think about this, do your own research and come to your own conclusion. - Blog post

Description:
Hey everyone, we just want to express how excited we are to be in our final beta release of the website. Our full release is still scheduled for October 5 but we will keep you posted as we get closer to that date.
So, what is MusiciansToolbox? Simply put, it is a community of musicians serious about creating original music and establishing careers in this industry. Now that doesn't mean people that play covers are excluded from this site because that is a necessity for most bands to get gigs booked, however we love to see those cover bands trying to forge new ground and create their own sound to show off to the world as well.
As a member we give you access to what seems like 2 sites in one. One to keep your fans updated and another to communicate with other peer professionals. So what's in the toolbox? Powerful communication tools to make all of this possible.
Tools like:
- Audio uploads & link to audio
- Video uploads & link to video
- Photo uploads & link to photo
- Your own Blog
- Musician specific Groups
- Musician specific Forums
- Text, Voice & Video Chat
...to just name a few.
We made the site membership based so we could reduce the clutter of folks just posting to another free website. This makes our members stand out that much more. Profile pages setup exclusively to sell cell phones or looking for husbands or brides from other countries won't be posted long here so if interested you better get the information off the page fast.
Here it is all about the music and the real musicians that make it. Here you aren't a bigcompanysite.com/73837894048 but instead musicianstoolbox.com/yourprofilename so even non-members can come directly to you. We intentionally down played the website design so not to compete with the most important thing on the page which is you and your content. Members also have a real voice and say in members staying in good standing with the community. We have no desire in blocking free expression and speech but etiquette and professionalism is a requirement here.
So if you would like to be a part of a community that lets your fans view what you are up to through your profile page, blogs, photos, audio & video uploads, while also giving you a place to cultivate professional industry contacts through member forums, groups and text/voice/video chat this is the place for you.
Hope to chat with you soon....
